  • Pregnancy
  • Infant low birth weight (LBW) is when babies weigh less than five pounds, eight ounces at birth. LBW often occurs in babies who are born prematurely, before 37 weeks of gestation.
  • Each trimester is marked by a baby's growth and by body changes in the mother.
  • Asphyxia neonatorum is also known as perinatal asphyxia, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, or birth asphyxia.
  • Oligohydramnios is a condition that can develop during pregnancy. It occurs when not enough amniotic fluid, which surrounds the fetus, is produced.
  • Bleeding or spotting, increased need to urinate, tender breasts, fatigue, nausea, and missed period are signs of pregnancy.
  • If labor starts at 37 weeks or earlier, it is considered preterm or premature labor. Babies born prematurely have a greater chance of several health complications.
  • Amenorrhea is the term for a woman missing a monthly menstrual period. Not having a period during pregnancy or after menopause is normal. But missing periods at any other time can be a symptom of a medical issue.
  • Most pregnancies go on without any problems. However, some women will experience complications that can involve the mother's health, the baby's health, or both.
  • Read how your baby is developing each week in our pregnancy calendar.
