Hypercalcemia complications

Complications could include:

  • Osteoporosis is a bone disease due to calcium loss. As a result the bones lose strength and density. People are usually unaware that they have the condition until they experience a fracture.
  • Dehydration occurs when you lose more fluid than you drink. The most common cause of water loss from the body is excessive sweating. Headaches, dizziness, and decreased urination are symptoms.
  • A kidney, ureter, and bladder (KUB) study is an X-ray procedure that assesses the organs of the urinary system and gastrointestinal system.
  • Ademetionine is a form of the amino acid methionine. Low levels of folate or vitamin B12 can cause a drop in ademetionine. It is not found in foods.
  • Light therapy, also known as phototherapy, is a treatment in which the patient is exposed to an artificial light source. It is used primarily to treat seasonal affective disorder.
  • A fracture is a broken bone that typically occurs when a bone is impacted by more force or pressure than it can support. In an open fracture, the ends of the broken bone tear the skin.
  • Pancreatitis is swelling and inflammation of the pancreas, a vital organ to digestion and blood sugar regulation. The main symptom is abdominal pain, but it may include nausea or bloating.

  • Ulcers are open sores. When they occur in the stomach, they are gastric ulcers. Duodenal ulcers occur in the upper area of the small intestine. They often cause a feeling of fullness or hunger, bloating, and burping.
  • The ability to concentrate is a function of mental status and cognition. Impairment of the ability to concentrate can be a problem of neurologic or psychiatric origin or a combination of behavior and mentation.

  • Osteomalacia is a weakening of the bones due to problems with bone formation or the bone building process. It is not the same as osteoporosis, which is a weakening of living bone that has already been formed and is being remodeled.
